    • Beautiful car

Really enjoy driving this car. It feel very luxurious and everyone is sure to compliment you. The only drawback is the hydrogen stations. They should be coming out with more soon so research your area before purchasing. Nice car overall
    • Don't buy this car!!

By Steve on Thursday, December 26, 2019

I was looking for a commuter car to drive about 20-25 miles daily in Los Angeles traffic, one that was comfortable, quiet, safe, and fuel-conserving. The Toyota dealer pitched this car to me and it seemed like a slam dunk. The car uses liquid Hydrogen fuel, only emits water vapor, has a driving range of 312 miles, is comfortable and fully equipped with high end stereo, Sirius radio, safety sensors, GPS, etc. The selling point was that the car was so heavily subsidized, that the lease was nearly free. The base price of the lease was $349/month for 10K miles/year--for a car that retails for 60K. Toyota provides $15,000 in free fuel, enough to last the 3 year term of the lease, the state provides a $5,000 rebate and use of HOV lane (I found out later this is subject to income test, and I did not qualify). In addition, Toyota provided 3 weeks of free car rental of any car in their fleet over three years and free maintenance (requires servicing in Santa Monica Toyota). The problem with this car is complete unavailability of fuel. Getting fuel was supposed to be (according to the salesperson) a 5 minute experience. The problem is that the available Hydrogen stations seem to be out of fuel the majority of the time. The stations are scattered around LA. I live in Encino and work in Burbank. The nearest Hydrogen stations are in Woodland Hills (7 miles away from home) and Hollywood (10 miles from home and work). Woodland Hills is often 'Offline' and has been 'Offline' for weeks at a time. Hollywood is frequently offline. There is an app for the phone and car that lists all of the stations and 'Online/Offline' status. I have seen times when every single station on my screen was offline. Also, if someone uses the Hydrogen pump ahead of me, the nozzle freezes, and I have had to wait over 10 minutes to allow it to thaw out. The car is perfectly acceptable. The complete lack of Hydrogen infrastructure makes this car unusable. I would never buy this again. I feel ripped off.

I had been looking at bee's but the range for the price, they were out of my budget. I do not remember how, but I stumbled across the mirais cpo 17 that were only 13k certified. As with the range and price I immediately fell in love with the mirai whose interior is way better than all the ev's in the similar price range. So I ended up missing out on 3 cars because they were selling fast so that only cemented my mind to buy one at first chance. I finally get my 60k car with for only 14k with the 15k fuel card. Soooooo first off I live 12 miles away from the nearest hydro station. Meaning I lose 24 miles of range just for the refuel. So thats OK because with the stated range of 310 - 20 I should be OK with 280 to 290. However what I found was that with a full tank the range was only 270. So my real range then would be 250. I work from home and only take the car out for groceries so I don't need to gas up frequently. With my ice I would gas up every month or so. So the mirai was definitely a no brainer. But what I didn't know is that the car vents hydrogen. I suddenly understood why it was so cheap. So while your car sits it is losing fuel as time goes on. I lost about 30 miles worth of range within the first two weeks of the hydrogen tank venting. I think it is because I use my car so little that I was able to learn of the hydro tank vent. Mind you this is normal not a defect, since it is done to regulate tank pressure. That is my gripe for now. So losing 60 miles per month of fuel per month due to tank pressure vent. 60bmiles plus 20 miles for the fill up. Not mention the station had been out of service for 4 of the last 20 times that I have filled up.
