When McLaren’s engineers set out to develop the McLaren 12C Spider and its distinctive retractable roof, they set aggressive performance targets: benchmarks that, at the time, seemed unachievable.
Through tireless innovation, the team shaved 10 kg (22 lbs) off their original target weight for the roof, reduced the drag caused by top-down driving, and even ensured that the spectacular engine was still visible with the roof down.

LIGHTNESS OF BEING
Like its coupé sibling, the McLaren 12C Spider was inspired by Grand Prix engineering.
McLaren pioneered the use of carbon fibre in the world of racing, and the McLaren 12C was the first of our supercars to use a one-piece MonoCell chassis. The construction delivers greater strength and a lower weight than previous designs – perfect for getting maximum performance from the Spider’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
The McLaren 12C Spider delivers smooth, relentless acceleration that feels effortlessly fast, pulling hard at any speed with complete confidence. It’s performance you don’t have to fight—just point, press, and go.
At its core is a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engineered for instant response and seamless power delivery. It blends supercar speed with everyday usability, giving you thrilling performance without sacrificing refinement.
Confidence in Every Corner
The interior is clean, minimalist, and unmistakably McLaren, with a driver-first layout that puts everything exactly where you want it. Premium materials and a sleek digital display create a cockpit that feels both futuristic and purposeful.
The 12C Spider connects you to the road with light steering, superb balance, and incredible stability through corners. With the roof down, every drive feels immersive and engaging, turning even casual trips into something special.
