True to McLaren’s design philosophy, the distinctive elongated tail was created for a reason. Instead of a traditional rear wing, the McLaren Speedtail’s trailing edge contains ailerons – components usually found on aircraft, which extend at high speeds to provide balance, as well as an airbrake function. Unlike traditional hinged ailerons, however, these are formed from the carbon fibre bodywork, which bends to increase downforce. The very body of the car changes shape as it glides through the air.
